I am considering purchasing your product, but I have found that I am having trouble getting this program to work with what I need to do.
I am using ViceVersa Pro 2 to back up pst. files throughout my network to a backup server running Windows 2k3r that is my target. When I archived everyone in my company, I placed their pst files on their hard drives. I have VV loaded on my machine which has admin rights. I browse out to get the path of a individuals pst file and place that in the source path, and then I have my target path set to the folder on my server.
I have had some of the pst files get backed up, but very few. I am having trouble putting multiple sources in and not getting a good return.
Most of the errors I get is “A program has locked a portion of the file.”
Copying "archive.pst" (683.95MB) ... [Can not open "\\adm-pfloren\c$\pflorenpst\archive.pst". The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.] Error.
Can you help me out?
Is there a setting I should look for or can this be done over a network anyway?
Any help will greatly be appreciated. |

Hi, the error message you get is becuase the PST files are being used by Outlook, while VV is copying them. to work around this, you need to install ViceVersa on each computer and use the settings 'Use Volume Shadow Copies' in the profile advanced settings. See http://www.tgrmn.com/web/kb/item33.htm for more info. _________________ --

Hi, I'm also trying to replicate (create a backup copy of) a local Outlook .pst file. So far, without success. I have searched this forum & read all the posts regarding this subject, but I'm confused & still having problems.
I would like to synchronize the local outlook.pst file on a laptop (Win XP Pro) with a backup copy on a Win XP Pro desktop (both on a wireless workgroup). I have enabled the Volume Shadow Service in the profile advanced settings, but I'm getting a conflict when I sync. It says the target file has been removed (but it's still there in Win Explorer?). I've also had 'timestamp is different' problems.
Having read through lots of threads, I now understand there is a problem with mapped drives. Will using a unc path in the target solve the problem?
Is what I'm trying to do achievable with VV Pro2? |

Hi , VV can copy PST files even when they are in-use using Volume Sahdow Copies, but it can not sync e-mails and contacts within 2 PST files. Is that what you would like to do? _________________ --

I understand VV doesn't sync the content within the .pst files. I just want to copy the .pst file from the laptop to the desktop (as a backup) over a wireless network.
I enabled the VSS & it worked during the 1st sync. From the 2nd sync onwards, I'm getting conflicts/ errors to do with the time stamp being different & 'target file has been removed' (even though it's still there when you browse to the target folder in Win explorer). |

No. The target PST is just a copy of the laptop PST file. Outlook on laptop is closed. |

Problem resolved by using unc file path for target (shared network drive). |
