I am trying to backup to a flash drive. When I run VV it keeps creating folders named 00000000.000 on the flash drive. I'm not sure how it's able to create thousands of folders with the same name on it. I can't seam to get a reliable backup onto the flash drive. The only way to get rid of the folders is to re-format the flash drive. Any ideas? Do I need to adjust the buffer settings when using a flash drive?

It is not VV that creates the folder named 00000000.000 on the flash drive.... it must be something to do with the flash drive driver. Can you give more details on your Operating System / PC version?

Is this related to Kingston DataTraveller only? It does not happen on our USB flash drives. Do you have a ViceVersa log file we can look at?

Looks like the Kingston Data Traveller flash USB drives are having a problem. We tested 6 other flash USB drive brands and they all work fine.

I had the same problem, and I found in another forum that they posted : "flash drives usually don't need NTFS file system. keep it FAT32, if it keeps doing it, use FAT file system. Also, if you take it out without "ejecting" it from the computer, it could be corrupting the data. Usually you can right click the drive and click eject."

Well I'm going to try the FAT format, please post results!! I'll do the same.

It's because it's a fake!!!

Really, I know a collegue bought one from Ebay, same problem, sent it off to Kingston for RMA, and they said it's counterfeit.

Take the cover off, is the main chip branded at the back? And is the cirvuit board red (this one is obviously a fake when opened!)

We received a message from one user who purchased two of these online recently: it worked fine for a couple of days, then the formatting problem.

Upon talking to Kingston they ask him lots of questions about the item. Turns out its counterfeit. Batches have been turning up on continent Europe, but NOT on reputable UK e-tailers.

Confirmation of a counterfeit item is as follows: lighter weight than usual, black lanyard with 'Kingston' printed in white - not quite straight, 'DataTraveler' writing on out side NOT indented and finally original should be recognised by Windows XP as 'Kingston DataTraveler' NOT plain USB storage or other.

this is a fake. i bought the 2 GB data Traveler from ebay and i was getting the same error (0000000.000). i called kingston up to RMA the brocken device. she asked me a bunch of questions, i bottom line is that if the back of your drive says "made in Korea" then it is fake. you should call kingston if you have one of there they are in an ongiong lawsuit with the sellers on ebay who were selling these. you might even get your money back if you paid with paypal. call kingston ASAP and they might be able to help you out.

I also bought Kingston 2GB labelled made in Korea. I thought that was fine because it was Kingston. Now, the problem is, when I copied files more than 5mb, data starts to convert into zeros.
