I have configured VVlauncher to run a profile at Windows XP shutdown.
Doing this I noticed the following problem.

Whenever I decide to RESTART my machine using (Start -> Turn off computer -> RESTART), the computer gets shutdown (and powered off) instead of restarted.

If I disable the VVlauncher, the restart/shutdown behaviour returns back to normal.

Do you have any solutions for this?

Thank you, Z.

Hi

did you set the VVLauncher option to "ask for confirmation when before running profile at shutdown"?

No, this behaviour is present only if no confirmation is required.

If I check the "Ask for confirmation..." option, VVlauncher works as instucted (if I press restart on confirmation screen, it restarts; if I press shutdown, it shutdowns).

However, it makes no sense to me that the user needs to choose restart / shutdown option on confirmation dialog again - after he has already done so on standard Windows shutdown dialog.

Please confirm if this is a bug and if there is any workaround.

Thank you.

Unfortunately this is an issue with the way Windows works.... When Windows is shutting down it informs all running applications, but it does not report if the user selected to shutdown and switch off or instead shutdown and restart. So VVLauncher does not know and will shut down the machine.... the only work around is to have the dialog popup and select manually! Exclamation

As your customer, I am not satisfied with your answer.

Please check the ActiveExit utility (http://www.winability.com/active-exit/) that is intended to run tasks when user shutdowns/restarts machine. This application is intended to run tasks before Windows shutdown and it works properly - it shuts down/restarts machine according to user selection in Windows Shutdown dialog box.

As a holder of M.Sc. degree in computer science and 6 years of programming experience, I am also convinced, that there is a way to intercept windows shutdown/restart procedure call and act according to it.

So please aim at improving your application and fix this issue in the next release or inform me of the most suitable workaround. Thank you.
