difference in file size not detected

I recently downloaded your free version of VV and setup a test. I created two directories, each containing the same two MP3 tracks. In the second directory I changed the filename of track 1. For track 2, I kept the file name the same as in the first directory but I trimmed down the file to about half it's size (just chopped off the last half of the song with Goldwave). I then ran the comparision and VV clearly marked file 1 as "unmatched". For file 2, VV did show the different file sizes but did not flag it as "unmatched". Why?
Any help appreciated.

Unmatched files are marked with a red circle. Unmatched files do not have a corresponding file/folder on the other side.
When a file has a corresponding file on the other file, but with different timestamp and/or size the file is marked with a + or a -
