have mentioned this in other comms, but would appreciate an optional 'Space Check' at the Target before Execution.
I run 'Backup Mirror' jobs to external 3.5" Hard Drives and also to USB keys, now VV does a fine job of telling me about the size of files to be Updated, Added and Deleted, but it does not tell me there is insufficient space on the Target to do so, it just stops mid-way through the Job.
What I then end up with is an incomplete copy, ie files deleted, some added but not all. Painful.
A simple optional check (ie not 'on' by default for every Profile) would be great. The space check prompt could even allow an interactive 'do you want to continue anyway ?' if space is insufficient at the point of running, as I guess there will be some people who would rather 'fix it on the fly'.

Hi Alice, thank you, this would be useful. I have added this to the future log. Sometimes profiles can contain multiple drives / network, deletions before additions so it will need to work that out. It would not work if compression is enabled as ViceVersa does not know compression size before execution. _________________ --

I'm just wondering if maybe the 'Status Summary' could be adjusted to include the 'Deleted Files' Size statistic from the 'Execution Summary' ? That way it could be reviewed by me ahead of the 'Execution'.
VV must know this stat in advance of the 'Execute' button being pressed because its shown in the dialogue 'Execute : Deleting from Target (Step 1 of 2)' immediately on pressing 'Execute' ?
So the 'Status Summary' would show the sizes of :
Single Files
Newer Files (changed)
Older Files (changed)
add them together/compute them, then subtract the 'Deleted Files' Size to show me the difference in GB. That way I could manually check against the 'Free Space' at the Destination before I click 'Execute' in VV....in circumstances where I know the Destination is 'tight on space'.
A bit of a 'fudge' but better than nothing and potentially more straightforward for you to implement as its just displaying a 'sum' for the user to evaluate ?
Maybe make it only available for 'single source/target' Jobs. |
