|
|
VVENGINE uses 4 status icons in Window's system notification area that I know of, each indicating an important condition:
1. All profiles are ready.
2. At least 1 profile is running.
3. At least 1 profile has experienced an error.
4. All profiles are disabled.
I propose a 5th to indicate a skipped profile.
I would use it in a script that pings network workstations. On ping failure, the script would change it's return value to one meaning "It's OK to skip this profile - the condition is NOT an error".
vvengine has an option I always use for skipping profile execution in case of a script error. But when sequentially running profiles that sync network workstation folders, each profile running after the previous one ends, skipping a profile (in my scenario) is NOT an error.
Each profile's script could return an error-code indicating "skip this profile" when a target workstation ping fails. Seeing that new icon would allow me to NOT spend time invoking the vvengine UI for problem analysis.
If it's easier to have a vvengine scheduler option to do this, all the better! And I wouldn't have to use scripts! But I would still like to see a new icon indicating the profile was skipped.
I know there's already an option for waiting to run a profile until the targets are available by using a ping. But in my case, I wouldn't want vvengine to wait because subsequent profiles wouldn't run. |
