VV6 Job runs 'ok' on server...but hangs if run via VVE 3.0

So VV6 Serv Prem Job on Windows Server 2019, idea is to copy data to this server's C: Drive via PS (PnP) from SPO Source, then once it is written use VV to Move the data elsewhere on the network.

To do this there is a .bat file (as below) that calls PS7 (so not PS5) to run a PnP 2.40 script :

Ok, so more testing and some progress from me...

PS (PnP) is installed per user profile ?

In which case the 'Service Account' used in VVE did not have it installed so would fail to connect to the Source, but the account used to log in to the server and run the VV6 Profile 'manually' did have it installed so that's why it worked in one scenario but not the other (.....I think !)

But there's still an issue.

VVE now correctly runs the PS (PnP) script and moves the data, but in the process of doing so, it 'hangs'.

VVE shows 'Unable to connect to VVEngine ...'

I have to open services.msc and restart the VVE service after the job runs to return to normal operations in VVE.

At which point does ViceVersa freeze?

First log @ 11.47 is .fsf run manually from VV6 Program
Second log @ 11.55 is the same .fsf run automatically by VVEngine 3.0

to my eye, they look exactly the same, indeed both jobs complete without incident.

However VVEngine 'hangs' the instant the job finishes, which necessitates the VVEngine Service to be restarted or sometimes the whole server (....in order to get VVEngine to respond).

So obviously I can't keep 'crashing VVEngine' on a Production Server in a commercial environment, so I am now using my home network to test this issue.

My home network is :

Windows Server 2022 Standard (21H2)

This afternoon I installed

PS 7.4.2
+
PnP 2.4.0

onto that server. Note VVEngine is not set up as a Windows Service.

Yep, you guessed it.....same behaviour on my home server (2022) as I get from my commercial server (2019), VVEngine completes the Job, then displays :

I have completed a couple of hours testing in my home set up (....now 9pm in the UK).

It's the PnP commands that are causing VVEngine to 'hang' (...I think !) after the .fsf execution completes.

The same .fsf run via VV6 on the server or via VVScheduler calling the same PnP script works without issue.

What I'm doing with PnP is creating a kind of virtual drive into SPO in order to copy the data to the local server.

Hi, this is a strange one as it looks like the whole server becomes unstable?? i.e. you have to reboot?

Between the same profile run in ViceVersa or from VVEngine I noticed a different user:

"Process Integrity Level: High" means the profile us running elevated from within VVEngine, that is the default case, I think that might be the issue.

There a new option in VVEngine called "Run Profile with Highest Privileges" which is enabled by default... can you try disable it?

Hi there.

So its only VVEngine that hangs not the server. The server nearly always has to be rebooted in order for VVEngine to recover and display correctly.

I'm now testing only on my Home Server (2022), so really simple set up, one single account, VVEngine not running as a Windows Service, and VVEngine still hangs no matter what I do.

Immediately after the .fsf is run in VVEngine, its display clears and changes to 'Unable to connect to VVEngine ...' and also I noticed there is a background dialogue box titled 'vvengine' (lowercase) and that simply shows a red 'x' and 'The parameter is incorrect' text, with an 'ok' button.

Disabling "Run Profile with Highest Privileges" has no effect btw

Hi, what is the content of the entire script that is run before comparison, and is this line to cause the issue?

If the scripts is freezing, then that could cause issues to VVEngine....

agree, but the same script works in VV6 on the same server in the same session. Even when run via VVEngine the script completes the download of data, the subsequent move of it and no error is reported in the VV log file.

The message box you are seeing , it's an error from VVEngine.

It's a simple PnP PowerShell Script, it sets some variables, connects to the SPO Tenant and then there's just two commands :

Hi, we do not have the ability to run the same commands, but I assume if you run a generic PowerShell script in the profile and in VVEngine, I assume that does not freeze the profile? It Is it only these specific commands in Powershell run from VVEngine?

Please try this: run ViceVersa as administrator. (Right click on icon and select "run as administrator". Then run this same profile that freezes in VVEngine. Does it run correctly?
