Hi,
I've just downloaded and installed ViceVersa. Never heard of it until about an hour ago.
I have a unique case. I wish for ViceVersa to compare the source and destination; if the source is the same then delete source file and carry on to the next file.
This is to clear out my backup drive but insuring any files that might have been deleted on the destination can be restored from the backup drive. Then the source can be destroyed by a drill press.
Does anyone know if ViceVersa can handle such a task?
Thanks,
Terry

Hi if you compare Source and Target , then in the comparison window equal files are marked with a green tick and you can select them and delete them from source.... I would use CRC comparison to make sure file contents is identical.

I was hoping this could be automated as I have over 20 hard drives to move/delelte data from. Ticking a box is nearly as manual as Robocopy then delete anything left over.
I just removed the software. But if, someone can offer an automated task with ViceVersa I'll try it again. I would buy a license if it worked.

There is actually a way if you select as execution method
Replication (Update) with Move to Target option.
Then a file that is already on target is removed from source.

Are you referencing the newest verion that can be downloaded on 3/2/2023? I don't see a Move to Target option. Here are the Action choices in the version that I just downloaded and installed.
Execution Method:
Sychronization
Backup (Mirror Source to Target)
Replication (Augment Target)
Replication (Refresh Target)
Replication (Update Target)
Consolidation

I've searched everywhere and don't see the word remove or delete.[/img]

One more thing. What I'm looking for is an automated way of comparing source and target. If files are the same then deletes those files and move the rest.
I don't want to move 40TB of data when only 5TB is missing from the target. That should be deleted and move whatever is missing. That way when I look at the hard drive a day later there should be nothing left and the drive can be destroyed.
I'm beginning to believe there's no software available that can do this and I'm going to have to write a program that does this.

In the latest ViceVersa PRO version 5, select Replication (Update) in the profile settings and then the "move" option. Files will be moved from source to target and if they are matching and already on target they will be deleted from source. This method can be run automatically and scheduled.
