It has come to my attention that certain programs, such as Excel, will change a file's modified date when you open it. If the replication then copies this file off to the target, and you subsequently do *not* save the file again, the source's modified date rolls back to the original old date. I now should have a newer "version" on the target.

My question is whether VVPro handles this gracefully without enabling the "overwite newer files on target" option? For obvious reasons, I'd like to refrain from using this option unless I have to. Thanks...

I do not see the same Excel behavior here, which version of Excel are you using?
Once the target file is newer than source file, it can only be overwritten with the "overwite newer files on target" option ...

I'm having exactly the same problem. It happens when I use shadow copy for the source. When you open, e.g. excel file, the modification date changes to the date and time you've just opened the document. If the replication happens during that time, the file is being replicated as it's seen to have been modified. Then, you close the document and the modified date is being reverted to the original one and you've got the date mismatch. Is there any way to solve the problem apart from disabling the VSS of using 'overwrite newer files on target' option? Thanks

I found this Excel behavior described here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/826741

I think the only way to work around this issue is to activate the option
"overwite newer files on target" in the profile settings.

I think this Excel behavior will confuse a lot of backup applications.
