Good afternoon,

Currently, we have daily backups being stored for our client in an update fashion for each day of the week. Backups dump to a “Monday”, “Tuesday”, “Wednesday” folder throughout the week, and the client swaps the USB drive being used at the end of the work-week.

They would if possible like to change this to store incremental backups that automatically notate the backup date in the name of each folder. In other words, in the event they forget to swap the USB drive for a while they’d like backups to store in folders named “Monday 6/28/2021”, “Monday 7/5/2021” etc until the 3TB drive is full.

Is this possible to automate as such in an incremental fashion with ViceVersa Pro? Thanks for your assistance on this.

Hello,

yes, that can be done using "Folder Variables" (see also info in help file).

You may enter variable macros (also known as Folder Variables) as part of folder names for Source, Target, Log File, Archive Folders, Tracking Database, Custom Scripts and Filters. ViceVersa will expand these variables to the appropriate values when running the profile. Variable names must be enclosed between < > (for example: <var>).

To have the date in the target folder name you can use, for instance:

x:\mirrors\<dayofweek>-<date>\

Also, enable the option :

Create sources/targets folders if they do not exist: Instructs ViceVersa to create source and target root folders that do not exist

You can use the label of the drive or the serial number of the hard disk instead of the drive letter if needed.
