Why ViceVersa latest version, when Mirror Source to Target over a USB 3 connections starts with around 80mb/sec transfer speed for later dropping to a crawl like 540kb/sec?
I do not have Verify Copy operation checked.
I have tried Use Windows native file copy, but that does not make any difference.
thanks |

It does not seem to make any differences as to how many files are being copied.
Nor if the files are large or small.
After a while, the speed drops dramatically to below 1mb/sec.
For info, last week I did a complete restore to factory setting on my Dell XPS 8930 (one year old), with i7-9700cpu 3GHz and 16gb ram, running 64 bit.
Windows is 10 Home version 20h2
Thanks |

Hey there.
I too have a Dell XPS 8930 (i7-9700, 16GB, SK Hynix PC601 M.2 512GB) purchased 2019-09-24. Not had this particular issue with VV and I use daily Mirror copies to a SanDisk 256GB Ultra Fit USB 3.1 Flash Drive so that I can transfer data to my work PC.
I am however a Dell veteran owner (ie owned lots of them) 'new chipset drivers' tend to fix this type of thing.....maybe post your query additionally on their forums if you haven't already done so ?
btw have you tried the front & back USB ports ?
New BIOS available too 1.1.16 published 2021-02-04, vague chance it might help. |

Hi and thanks for your post,
Yes, I have tried that as well - no difference from front or back usb port, nor does it matter which port I use.
I also upgraded (with trembling heart ) to new BIOS a few days ago, which has no effect either.
Not sure where and what to do next.
ViceVersa is a great tool which I could not do without, but a bit frustrating to see the speed drop to a crawl after a little while,
Thanks, |

What's the 'Process Priority' [ File / Change Profile Settings / Performance-Bandwidth ] set to in VV ?
Maybe set it to 'Normal' or higher, see if that helps. |

Hi Alice,
Thanks for your reply,
I have Process Priority set to Normal, but have also tried to change to high as well as changing bandwidth, but nothing seems to make any difference.
However, I just noticed that ViceVersa runs very well when files with a "reasonable size" (around 10-20mb) but as soon as a large file is encountered (say 100mb or more) the transfer rate drops significantly.
If files of 1gb or more it drops to a crawl,
I have tried to use Windows 10 file copy in Explorer, and that seems to be very slow for larger files as well.
It may be "a feature" and nothing to do with ViceVersa at all.
One way to overcome this, I have found, is to let ViceVersa run overnight and then have it shut down the computer automatically after backup completed.
Thanks again, |

It seems to be about the same speed for Windows and ViceVersa.
Wonder if it has anything to do with some setting somewhere deep inside Windows 10.
Thanks |

Do you have a different drive to try?
Then a different port? And/or a different PC?
Just to isolate where the issue is with the drive, the port, or the PC... _________________ --

My apology for late reply
No, I must admit I haven't had time to try the suggestion, but have monitored the performance for the last few days and seems to fine.
Transfer speed is in the range of 40mb/s - occasionally peaks at 80mb/s.
Wondering if it might have been a Windows update causing a bit of problems,
Thank you for help and support |
