Hello there and hope all is good.

We've been running VVEngine 2.2 Server Premium Edition (Build 2230) on Server 2012 R2 for maybe two years and its been working away without incident.....perfect !

However a couple of days ago I noticed two things -

1) there was an error on a Scheduled Job :

> Today at 02:00:00 until 02:00:03 (3 sec) - (Scheduled Run) - Execution not completed. (Incremental) More Info...
> [ERROR] Error opening VVEngine incremental file: 'C:\Users\ [ USERNAME ] \AppData\Roaming\VVEngine\5F03EB50-0F4D6296-43A09540-40830996-32F12E3D.vv.txt '. The system cannot find the file specified.

the VV copy job does not reference that folder/file in any way, so a bit odd...

2) this is an observation rather than an issue - and it is that the VVE Icon on the system tray had disappeared, but VVE was still running happily in the background.

I followed these instructions to try to resolve :

Code:
https://www.tgrmn.com/web/forum/viewtopict2186.htm

but in fact all I needed to do was 'End task' the 'VVEngineIcon (32 bit)' process and start it again.

Hello,
I hope you are doing well!

1) there was an error on a Scheduled Job :

The incremental file is used to pass real-time changes from VVEngine to ViceVersa. Not sure why that has happened, however you should have that same error in the ViceVersa log.

2)
Yes, that is also a possible solution, the taskbar icon is a separate program running, but VVEngine can still run in the background without it.

Hi and thanks for your help.

Re point 1) the VVE 'Scheduled Job' failing at 02:00am each day, I checked the server Event Log (Application) and there are two entries at 2am for VVEngine :

[C:\- Working Files\name.fsf] Error - Windows can not monitor folder: \\?\UNC\xx.xx.xx.xx\e$\...\...\ - An unexpected network error occurred. (err:59)

[C:\- Working Files\name.fsf] Profile finished. Result "(Scheduled Run) - Execution not completed." Exit Code: 2.

however there is no entry in the VV Log file for that Profile at that time, it jumps from 00:00am to 04:00am with no mention of 02:00am at all (btw it's set to run every two hours and also monitors changes at a sub-folder level in 'real time')

I'm not massively concerned by this behaviour, as it is failing at a very early time of the day, but wondered if the above errors meant anything to you that might help diagnose the issue ?

Hi, can you check the VVEngine.log around that time, does it show

> Today at 02:00:00 until 02:00:03 (3 sec) - (Scheduled Run) - Execution not completed. (Incremental) More Info...
> [ERROR] Error opening VVEngine incremental file: 'C:\Users\ [ USERNAME ] \AppData\Roaming\VVEngine\5F03EB50-0F4D6296-43A09540-40830996-32F12E3D.vv.txt '. The system cannot find the file specified.

thanks

Hi Smile

thanks for coming back to me.

So on the date in question, 2021-01-15 the VV Log file has no entry for the scheduled run at 02:00hrs, it skips from 00:00hrs directly to the next scheduled run at 04:00hrs.

I did however search back though the entire Log and found an entry for 2021-01-09 at 02:00hrs and it reads...

Quote:

2021-01-09 02:00:03 : [ERROR] Error scanning source folder. The specified network name is no longer available.
2021-01-09 02:00:03 : Aborted.
2021-01-09 02:00:03 : Exit Code: 2. Execution not completed. [ERROR]

I'll have a look through the Server 2012r2 Task Scheduler and see if something else is set to run at 02:00hrs and is disrupting things...maybe that's the issue here.

Found this in the Task Scheduler :

Name : Regular Maintenance
Location: \Microsoft\Windows\TaskScheduler
Author: Microsoft Corporation
Description: Maintenance Scheduler Launcher Task

Reading background docs on this, it seems like a fairly major activity. Maybe that's the problem, the connection to the remote server drops as this Task runs at 02:00hrs each day.
