|
|
I am trying to backup (using the backup method) from one server to another. The target server already contains files in the directories that I am backing up to, but these files are not on the source server. I want it to be this way. I tried using the backup method but the files on the target server that are not on the source got deleted!
What can I do?? |

TGRMN can confirm this but I'm fairly certain I understand your problem. When VV compares the target and source it sees your files/folders on the target and not on the source and assumes those files/folders were deleted from the source. VV then deletes your files/folders from the target during the execution phase in order to keep your backup synchronized.
In order to have VV stop doing this you need to setup file/folder exclusion filters on the target data that you want to be left alone. |

You have 2 options:
- If you want to copy files that are on the target (and not in source) to source then use the "Synchronization" method
- If you want to leave them on the target without deleting them exclude the files/folders with filtering, as per Nickman67 message, and use the "Backup" method.
Use the Preview button in the comparison window to see how different settings will impact your execution and which files will be copied, deleted etc.

So I can’t setup a method to simply take from the source and merge into the target without affecting (i.e. ignoring) what is already on the target? |
