Below is an error report I received recently.
As well, many of my tasks running in VVS tend to "hang" even after the log says they're completed. The task just stays in a "running" state. I run these hourly, so I've had to set the system up to stop running after 1h59m, just to re-set them. It's fairly common it seems.
Not sure if the error report is related or not.

Please update to the latest VV PRO 2 build 2010. If the error happens again can you please send the files viceversa.dmp and viceversa.rpt to support@tgrmn.com , thanks!
Regarding ViceVersa hanging, which VVScheduler flags are you using? Are you suing the /wait flag? _________________ --

Yes, I'm using the /wait flag.
As of now, my three tasks are all stuck on "running" and there are no updates to the logs since 1:30am this morning. Each runs every hour and it's now 10:55am. The entire backup process takes no more than 15 minutes for all three of them combined.
Despite the fact that they are stopped every 1hr59min if they run long, they don't seem to be doing anything.
I will try the update now. _________________ Al Bsharah

More info.
After the upgrade, one of the three shows it's still running...but the log file is obviously stating that it's done running:

EDIT: Another note, even though the /wait command is used, the other two seemed to run and finish while the 3rd was hung in a "running" state. _________________ Al Bsharah

Thanks for downloading the update. Could you please remove the /wait flag and see what happens? We heard from other customers that the /wait flag could be the cause of not 'releasing' ViceVersa at the end of execution. This happens only on certain systems, we could not duplicate that behavior here, so I can not guarantee it will work. thanks. _________________ --

Ok.../wait is removed. I'll let you know how the next few cycles go.
Don't know if this helps, but when I "Terminate Task", for the hanging task, from the VVS screen...I get the following information:
Exit Code:
-1073741819 (yes, negative)
Latest Status:
Unspecified
More soon... _________________ Al Bsharah

Thanks. That negative exit code is "undefined". It means that VV has crashed. Basically it seems that VV was hanging and when you try terminating the task it crashed. _________________ --

Ok...same situation with /wait turned off (for just the hanging task).
The system is a Win2k3 Server, fully patched.
* Single P4 2.66GHz processor
* 500MB RAM
* Dual 250GB disks software mirrored (Windows built-in) partitioned into 20GB and 230GB drives.
Anything else you need to know, or can provide? _________________ Al Bsharah

Is it only 1 task that is hanging? If yes, could you please send all your profiles and log files to support@tgrmn.com, so we can compare them and see what can cause this issue.
Also, when the task is hanging and you click on 'terminate', it crashes. then ViceVersa will create 2 files, ViceVersa.dmp and ViceVersa.rpt in the installation folder. Can you please send those 2 files?

There is also another thing that could help debugging this... this would be very very useful.
While the VV task is hanging, use the tool userdump.exe ( download and intructions here http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=241215 -- see section To create a dump file for a hanging process ). Create a dump file and then send that file to us for further analysis...
In the task manager please make sure only 1 ViceVersa.exe is running. _________________ --

We are seeing this on a 'backup' job with VV 2 also. Was there any conclusion to this thread?
Thanks,

No. Can you do the following:

Create a dump file and then send that file to us for further analysis...

Sorry, I've been meaning to do this testing for you but have been too busy. Urgh! Anyway, still hoping to spend some time on this soon... _________________ Al Bsharah
