Backing up Email and file based Database

I get errors every night trying to backup Thunderbird email files and file based databases because I can't get users to shut their programs down at the end of the day.

How do others deal with this issue?

Is there some script that I can run that will shut down all the running programs before I have backups scheduled?

Hi, if you activate volume shadow copies in ViceVersa, then it will be able to copy the files :

Well... that doesn't always work reliably for me. Sometimes I get errors copying to shadow file. (something like that)

I know when the programs are not accessing the files, there won't be a problem.
