I have VVPro 2.5 Build 2518 and VVEngine 2.2 Build 2210.
I have three Windows 10 Pro computers (all have VVPro and VVEngine installed) and a NAS. I have a folder that I need to be identical on each computer. My plan is to use a 2-way synchronization profile on each computer that synchs the folder to the same folder on the NAS. The idea being that a change made on one computer will be synched to the NAS and then synched from the NAS to each of the other computers. I seem to recall seeing this architecture explained on the VVPro website some time ago, but I cannot find it now. I am successfully implementing this architecture now using a synchronization program provided by the manufacturer of the NAS. However, I am not satisfied with some other features of that program and want to stop using it.
Anyway, to test this approach with VVPro, I decided to set up one computer to synch with the NAS. I created test folders on one computer and on the NAS and a 2-way VVPro profile on the computer to synchronize them. When I run the profile manually with VVPro it correctly synchs changes made in either location.
Then I set up VVEngine to automatically run the profile when changes are detected in either location. VVEngine correctly detects changes on the computer and synchs them to the NAS. However, it does not detect changes on the NAS and therefore does not run the profile to synch them to the computer.
I found a statement in VVengine Help that says that in some circumstances (not specified) VVEngine cannot detect changes on the network and it will generate an error. No errors are generated by VVEngine (or VVPro in the log file). It appears that VVEngine is just not seeing changes on the NAS at all.
Is there a fix to this? Or is there another setup that will accomplish what I want to do?
Thanks. |

Hello,
please see this article about the "Best Way to Sync Files Between 3 Computers (PCs or Servers)": https://www.tgrmn.com/web/kb/item85.htm
I assume you have VVEngine set to detect changes on both source and target. If changes to the NAS are not detected, it is due to the NAS not reporting them to Windows. You could then run the profile at a certain time or every hour or so on top of detecting changes.

Thanks for your reply.
As you indicated, my NAS is not reporting file changes to Windows. If there is a way to have the NAS report changed files to windows, I would like some information on that.
Also, I looked at the link you sent to me about the "Best Way to Sync Files Between 3 Computers (PCs or Servers)". Thank you. To do real time synchronizations with this setup seems a bit awkward, but I do understand how it could be done.
Moving on.
After I sent the original post to you, I found https://www.tgrmn.com/web/kb/item37.htm. In the section "Solutions for Desktop / Laptop" I found the following statement:
"Synchronize several computers against one master network folder. This enables a team to share the same set of files."
This is exactly what I want to do with my NAS (and am doing now as I explained in my original post). However, I cannot find a description on the tgrmn website of how to do this with VVPro/VVEngine. Can you describe it for me or point me to a link that does so?
Thanks
P.S. Please note that I cannot find a comparison of VVPro 3 vs 2.5. If this capability requires V3, I would be willing to upgrade. |

I sent my last reply to this post on 6/27 (it shows up as "Guest", I don't know why.)
You had previously sent me a link: "Best Way to Sync Files Between 3 Computers (PCs or Servers)": https://www.tgrmn.com/web/kb/item85.htm
I mentioned that I had found a statement in the tgrmn website that addresses my need: "Synchronize several computers against one master network folder. This enables a team to share the same set of files."
The quote above seems to explicitly address my situation (i.e. synchronizing multiple computers with a NAS) while the link above (i.e. "Best way ...") does not. The simple test I am trying to do (2-way synch between one computer and NAS) is a subset of what I need to do.
You said (which I suppose is true) that the NAS is not reporting changes to Windows. Fair enough, but is that some unfix-able situation? If so, then VVPRo/VVEngine cannot do 2-way synchronization to a NAS (any NAS?). And if that is the case, why does VVEngine allow me to set up the configuration in the first place? And, why is the statement (repeated here: "Synchronize several computers against one master network folder. This enables a team to share the same set of files." ) on your website?
I really want to get this resolved. Can you help me?
Thank you. |

Hi, sorry for my delayed reply.
The problem is that there are many different types of source/target folders that can be used. In your setup, the target NAS you are using is not reporting file changes to Windows when they happen, and VVEngine needs that to happen to be able to run in real-time. If you were using a different target, eg. a share over a Windows Network or even Azure Files on the cloud, for instance, that would happen, please see:
https://www.tgrmn.com/web/kb/item131.htm
So in your setup real-time is not working, unfortunately, but still, the synchronization can happen scheduled on an interval.
