Staff can scan paper documents to create .pdfs at any photocopier in the Business. These documents appear in your assigned Business Unit folder on our w2k Scan_Share$ based on a code in your ID Badge. All very clever.
This is meant to be a temporary 'landing site' for files before staff manually sort and move them to their Business Unit Main Share, Box.com, SharePoint
However when I checked the w2k Share recently there were 93,000 files in situ !
What I'd like to do with maybe a combo of VV & VVE is auto-move files created 14 days prior to today's date ie the only files left on the Share will be those scanned in the last two weeks. Is there an easy way to do this ? Ideally I'd like to create an archive of 'moved' files on a separate Share not accessible to staff. |

Yes, in version 3 you can move files from source to target.
If you exclude files that are newer than 14 days than those files are not moved as they are excluded. _________________ --

Hi so I set up a 'Replication (Update) - move to Target' profile which has a 'Date Filter' of 'Exclude files newer than 14 days', and that works.
A few questions :
1) which date is it actually using when it calculates 'newer than 14 days'....'Creation or Modified Date' ? In my scenario I'd prefer it to use 'Creation Date', as staff may be modifying the files in this temp 'scanning' Share, so the 'modified date' will change making the files less than 14 days old...
2) when I move the files, what happens if the 'Source' folder is then empty ? I noticed this message :
'1 - Will DELETE SOURCE FOLDER \\?\UNC\scansrv\Scan_Data$\Unit 1\ if empty (Matching folder already in target).
but I don't want it to do that as it would delete that unit's ability to scan into that folder.
I have created a warning sub-folder '!! CAUTION !! - Files stored here are DELETED after 14 days !!' in each Unit's Scan folder as a notice to staff, if that's excluded in the Profile (ie it will always remain in place) its Parent folder won't be deleted even if all its files are moved elsewhere by the Profile, leaving it empty bar the 'warning' folder ?
3) once the old files arrive in the separate Share, is there any way VV could help delete them after a further 14 days elapse ? Maybe I can have a DOS batch file to do this, but that's a bit nasty. Any smoother way via a VV Archive or similar ? |

Only the modified date is used...

Empty folders are moved too, e.g. removed from source... maybe leave an empty file in the folder and then excluded empty files based on size or name so they are not moved and the folder in not moved either?

Do you mean delete the files after 28 days?

1) ok, tks
2) Empty folders that are Excluded are moved too (!), ok I'll follow your suggestion re a placeholder file and exclude that
3) so I move the 'live' files after 14 days to a new Share (that staff can't see), then I just want to wait 14 more days before actually deleting the files altogether as staff may come back and ask for particular files to be recovered. |

Re 3) maybe you could mirror an empty folder vs the share that staff can't see and exclude all files newer than a month or so. Then all files older than 28 days are deleted. _________________ --
