Maybe in ViceVersa you can set up to keep max 20 archive copies per file and remove all files older than X days, it would produce a similar setup. _________________ --

Yes there's a few advantages in using VV Archiving (so 'event driven' backup rather than 'time-machine').
The two big ones are :
- the revised CV19 working arrangements mean it is less easy to predict when data will be accessed so 'clockface backups' don't work so well here
- It should be noted that Snapshots are stored on the same Volume as the data they are backing up, so a physical device failure/an issue local to the Volume would also render the Snapshots unavailable. VV Archiving can of course be directed to another Volume
One final point for those interested, when we implemented Shadow Copies / Snapshots we disabled the 'Restore...' button on the 'Previous Versions' tab, just so staff don't get carried away ! Staff can of course 'Copy...' or 'Open...' files they wish to recover and then place them back among the 'live' data. |
