I have been evaluating ViceVersa as a means to synchronize data between Home and Branch Office. I have tried to get Microsoft DFS-R to work, but it is terribly unstable in my lab environment. Peer Software is crazy expensive. So far in my lab tests ViceVersa seems to fit the bill. Not perfect, but good enough.
I had some trouble getting the Volume Snapshots to work and I think I found the issue. The realtime sync and monitoring files do not work with VSS, since VSS needs to snap the entire volume. I also had trouble with VSS over SMB3, but I may have just not been patient enough. Can someone confirm that this is expected behavior?
The main reason for wanting VSS is to grab a copy of a file that someone is camping on. So my next question. Can it be done and does it make sense to have two jobs, one to do realtime sync while monitoring the files and a second nightly backup to catch the open files?
Are there any issues having two jobs with the same source and destination? Should the be scheduled in such a way as to not overlap? Can they share the same database, so that scanning is shared? Should I just live without the VSS copy?
Thanks for any insights.

Hello,
thank you for evaluating ViceVersa.

Yes, the VSS snapshot creation would slow down the real-time replication.

VSS snapshots are only supported for local disks, can't be used for remote shares (Windows limitation)

It can be done, or you could enable the option to skip open files in the profile settings and let the sync happen when the file is closed.

No

They can't share the same tracking db.

I think probably this is the best option and get the file synchronized when it's no longer in-use.
