Hi there,
great software here, but we have discovered a problem on our side.
We are replicating data of a fileserver to another fileserver via ViceVersa.
We are using the backup method and selected to copy all the NTFS permissions. We are using VVEngine Service with administrive permissions.
So the day came we wanted to switch to the 2nd fileserver. All seemed to work fine, but while testing we found out that the inherent permissions of files/directories weren't copied.
As user if you update the permissions, the inherent permissions will show up after editing. But we can't manage to do this remote to all users.
We checked the permissions of the (root) source and (root) target folders and they are identical (without any inherent permissions). We are replicating through a private network (2nd NICs).
I've read some threads I've found here. This one could be promising:

help us here? Or is there a better solution?
Thanks in advance! |

Hi again,
I've tested the new version of ViceVersa with our old settings and Recheck File and Folder Security Attributes During Comparison with not to stop.
Problem is the same as before (security attributes are missing), but now we get an error:
Quote: |
[Unable to compare security attributes after copying. Access is denied.] [ERROR].
|
Additional just folders were created and no files copied.
We've tested
Quote: |
ROBOCOPY Source Destination /SECFIX /COPY:ATSOU /e /xx /B
|
and it works with ViceVersa Pro 2.5 and restores the security attributes. But it takes additional time and we have many files.
Is there a solution on your side? |

I ran into the same issue where permissions are not working but for some subfolders. It was inconsistent. I posted the question in technet forum and it was a bug in robocopy. We ended up using Gs RichCopy, not a free too but it copied the permission consistently.
Robocopy worked for other shares but not sure when the bug surfaces. The sad part is the log does not clarify where the error was. |
