Hi, recently upgraded to the v3 - Started noticing that some files that have been backed up before this version are not being backed up due to the error, "access denied". Example .. I exported my IExplorer Bookmarks to a file on my desktop (bookmark.htm). When running my backup, no luck. What is up with that? |

Hello, could you send the profile log to support @ tgrmn please? (a profile log can be set in profile settings -> execution in ViceVersa) thanks _________________ --

ViceVersa Pro 3.0 - Build 3000 - (64-bit) - Server Premium with Extended VSS support
VVScheduler 2.2.0.0
Windows Server 2008r2
I too experienced something like this yesterday on a 500,000 file 'Backup (Mirror Source to Target)’ job via VVScheduler which runs every 30 mins every day all day (this job previously executed without issue under VV 2.5). I am running the Profile to capture changes made by about 120 staff to the 500,000 files. The main ’mirror copy’ of this data completed weeks ago to another network Share. Note - I am also using VV Archiving to ‘trap’ deletions / overwrites which are then held on a third network Share, all 2008r2 NTFS.
Two files were affected last night, but I didn’t think too much of it....(it was late on a Friday !), so I copied them to my desktop, no access issues with that and then between the two mapped Shares in question, again no access issues. I re-ran the VV Job outside the VVScheduler (2.2.0.0) and nothing was reported…obviously as I had manually ‘synched’ the files.
I’ll keep my eye on this….maybe I could roll-back to VV 2.5 and run the same profile…
I’m addressing a different set of data today 300,000 files let’s see what happens to that with VV 3.0. |

I do indeed have Profile Logs, but I'll do a little more testing first so I don't waste your time
I've rolled back one of my servers to VV 2.5 (2519) and I'm going to run the same Profile on this server (ie VV 2.5) and on another running VV 3.0 using the same Domain Admin Account.
When the 'Comparison' completes I will execute a single file copy in VV ( ie highlight a file that's giving an 'Access Denied' red text error when the Profile is run under VV 3.0 and select '[ Action ] / [ Copy Selected Files/Folders' ] ) and see what result each server gives for the same file. I'll copy the file in VV 3.0 first (as that fails with 'Access Denied' and no copy is completed), then in VV 2.5 as the file will still be available as it fails to copy under VV 3.0. |

Ok, I have found the issue as least in my particular case.
In VV 2.5 (2519) if I try to copy a file that fails with 'Access Denied' under VV 3.0, VV 2.5 gives me a '[ WARNING ] Error copying folder modified timestamp from...' message in blue text but DOES copy the file.
In VV 3.0 in the same scenario it gives me a 'Cannot create....Access Denied' message in red text and then the '[ WARNING ] Error copying folder modified timestamp from...' message in blue text but DOES NOT copy the file.
If I unset the 'Retain folder created and modified timestamp when copying' Profile setting in VV 3.0, it will copy the file.
That's my scenario anyway... |

So for my 300,000 item copy - 6,295 items failed to copy with the 'Access Denied’ error under VV 3.0.
I just unset the 'Retain folder created and modified timestamp when copying' Profile setting for that Profile in VV 3.0 re-ran it and now all of the 6,295 items copy without issue.
It appears to me that there has been a 'change in behaviour' between VV 2.5 and VV 3.0 |

Thank you very much for your detailed analysis of the issue. We will check it and probably revert to 2.5 behavior. I will keep you posted. thanks again! _________________ --

You should receive two .log files, one for VV 3, one for VV 2.5 performing the same action and a screenshot of the result.
I hope they help you. |

Hi, I was wondering if there had been any progress with your review of the above ? Maybe this is an issue unique to my circumstances... ?
ps thanks to Elizabeth @ TGRMN for sorting out our licences for VV 3.0 so efficiently |
