|
|
Can anyone confirm that no changes are ever made to the source files during a mirror backup. I suspect the only possibility is a timestamp or archive bit.
I have a series of job that copy data from a server location to NAS Folders, which all work properly.
We are now using a VMDK backup solution to create server images to allow a full Server restore in a DR situation.
Each night it appears that virtually all of the data files have changes for the vmdk which makes the backups very large. I have insisted that VV will not affect anything on the source but it would be comforting for someone to confirm that for me please. |

Hello, which file attributes are used by VMDK to establish if a file has changed? The only attribute I can think off that ViceVersa might be changing is the file accessed timestamp (if it's enabled in Windows). Note this is the file accessed not modified, so the file hasn't changed.
If you do not want ViceVersa to change that timestamp enable option in advanced settings:
Preserve last accessed timestamp of files being copied: When this option is enabled, ViceVersa will preserve the last accessed timestamp of files being copied, if last accessed timestamps are enabled in Windows.

Just to clarify: if the option Preserve last accessed timestamp of files being copied is not set in ViceVersa, ViceVersa will change the access timestamp of the file being copied only if the file is actually copied because newer/changed... not during folder scanning. During comparison the files aren't changed at all or if files aren't copied. _________________ --
