Timestamp comparison method is very fast and reliable.
CRC comparison method is a way to verify that the source and target data are identical, byte by byte. This takes much longer (the entire file needs to be read instead of just the timestamp) but it is a very good method for verifying a data integrity. For instance it can be used for CD, DVD verification against a source or to verify a folder replica byte by byte.
