Big problem using vice versa pro to copy long file names from WD My cloud back to my laptop.
I used Vice Versa to try to copy all my precious genealogy files from my windows laptop to my WD My Cloud 4TB (a NAS).
And then I deleted my source folder becuase my problem was running out of space. (I have years of careful naming of files but when I tried just a windows copy command, the long file names were lost).
Long file names are critical and with Vice Versa I use the convention\\?\
But when I tried to fill the Vice Versa folder selection to set the MyCloud folder up as a "source", it captured the drive name but then when I asked Vice Versa to read the Mycloud folders (before executing) I got am error message from Vice Versa that the MyCloud could not be found.
I am lost.
Maybe I need to map the MyCloud to give it a letter?
Maybe I need to use the UNC naming system but I do not understand those instructions.
I am devastated.
Can you help? Murray (my cell is 905-317-0700). |

Hello, are the files on the MyCloud NAS? E.g. can you access them with Windows Explorer? Are you referring to only files with long paths >356 chars or all files? thanks _________________ --

You mean 'Support for path names longer than 259 characters' not
>356 chars... |
