I clicked "Show Differences" and there was a GUI to set the External File Comparison program. I selected the tgrmn Compare and Merge program and have been testing that. Now I want to change the External File Comparison program to ExamDiff. How do I get to the GUI to change the External File Comparison program?

Thanks...David Rohler

Hi David,

is it here :

start VV, then select menu options

[ View ] / [ Preferences... ]

the cursor will be in the 'File Comparison Program :' option, so maybe click on the yellow 'Folder' icon adjacent to it and select the ExamDiff .exe file

There is no View -> Preferences menu option in VV 2.5 Pro.
The Preferences menu can be opened only by asking to "Show differences" between two files, and only once, when no external comparison program has been set.

This was a serious problem, because I entered the folder of WinMerge rather than the executable WinMergeU.exe, so file comparison did nothing but open that folder, and I couldn't change that incorrect program location.

I fixed it by uninstalling and reinstalling VV 2.5 Pro.
But it is still a serious problem that VV has no way of accessing the Preferences menu other than on first specifying the external comparison program.

My mistake! There is a View -> Preferences menu, but only in the startup window, not in the larger window you see while making a comparison.
