|

Hello again,
I have Veritas Backup Exec and DLT tapes, and they work fine together.
I recently purchased an Iomega REV drive (with 5x 35GB HDD). This sounded like the solution to all the tapes' problems I always had. Only one problem : Veritas works like sh*** with REV disks.
So I'm looking for an alternative which might be ViceVersa. I have a test server, and I installed ViceVersa 2 Pro (b. 2009) on it.
I did serveral tests and whatever I do, the modification date and time of the files copied from the computer to the REV disk are always the date and time of the synchronisation (or Backup). Strangely, the creation date is not affected...
I guess the problem is that a REV disk format is not FAT nor NTFS but UDF
More info there :
https://iomega-na-en.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/iomega_na_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=16738&p_sid=n58z2V*h&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPSZwX3NvcnRfYnk9JnBfZ3JpZHNvcnQ9JnBfcm93X2NudD0yMDcmcF9wcm9kX2x2bDE9NjY5JnBfcHJvZF9sdmwyPTY3MCZwX2NhdF9sdmwxPTQ3MyZwX3BhZ2U9MQ**&p_li=
The UDF format makes it impossible to fdisk the Rev disk, as it is "seen" as a CD Drive, even if it's not. This is also why Veritas Backup Exec doesn't work properly with it.
Please let me know if anyone has the same problem ! And if there's a way to bypass this.
Take care

Hello
ViceVersa needs a file system that keeps modification date properly.
Question: if you copy files to the REV using the standard Windows Explorer do files keep the modification date correctly?
If yes, then also VV needs to work correctly with REV drives and if currently VV does not, we can work together and try some further tests to identify whrere the issue is.

Hello,
thank you for your prompt answer !
If I tried to copy a folder from my server to my REV disk using Windows Explorer, the modification dates are the same as in the source folder, but creation dates are the date and time of when the folder is copied.
I also tried to cut and paste a folder using Windows Explorer. In this case both creation and modification dates are correct.
So, Windows can handle copy / cut and paste as if the REV drive was a standard external drive.
Let me know what are the tests I can make.
Thanks

Ok, I tested with VV 1.3.1, which is already installed on my server. It works just fine. Modification and creation dates are the same as in the source.
I'll try to test version 2010a later today.
thanks

Hello,
I tested version 2010a and it works ! Modification and creation dates are the same as in the source. Thanks a lot.
When do you think this release will be an official version ? I don't think my boss will be very keen that I install a beta version....
Thank you very much for your help.
