Does anybody have any idea what is happening here? I got the following error report from VV, and the further 2 error reports shown next below in the event viewer (I think the second of them is probably a harmless error caused by having Veracrypt on the system):

I have now solved this problem and the problem in my post in April.
It had nothing to do with Veracrypt.
Would you like me to post how I fixed it? |

I am happy to post my diary note of the fix, but the post was rejected as containing "too many links". Is there a way round that? I don't feel like re-writing it, and the links are relevant. |

Would you mind send it to support @ tgrmn.com ? We will then post it as we are the only ones allowed to put links on the forum. Thank you very much! _________________ --

Ps You may like to note in the post that this all relates to my XP Pro SP3 system. How relevant it will be to later systems remains to be seen. Also, It may be appropriate to merge this thread with the thread that I started on 1 April, which is relevant as background but represents only an earlier stage in fixing the problem with the VSS. |

I thought I would let you know that although I am not having an VSS problems since fixing reinstalling the VSS service, but there is a residual problem with Vice Versa clones that use the VSS service.
Eventually any profile tjat uses the VSS will become unable to find the shadow copy, and unable to open the target files, and the problem can only be fixed by rebooting. I get the impression that this problem arises when the profile runs when there are other processes running on the computer, and I think that perhaps when my computer is running some other processes at the same time as a profile is running, there may not be enough resources for ViceVersa to run properly, and that unfortunately it then locks up somehow and will continue to produce the same errors when the profile is run again, regardless of whether there is still a shortage of resources. And then only a reboot will fix it.
The work around is to transfer the profiles that need the VSS to another cloning service, and another program seems to be able to handle the situation perfectly without any similar or other hitches. So, my guess is that there may be something in the way that the ViceVersa code is written that causes a lock up when it runs out of resources that can only be fixed by rebooting.
If you wish, I could check whether when this lockup occurs the other program will still work afterward but before rebooting, which would point to whether the lock up is in ViceVersa or in the VSS. Are you interested? |

Hi, on which version of windows is this happening? Are you using the latest build of ViceVersa? It would be great if you can check if the other program still works after the lock, thanks! _________________ --

I am using XP Pro SP3 - I am still working on building a new system - it is a major task.
The other program did still work after the lock, and was able to use the VSS. I also noticed that after running the other program, the lock might continue, apparently depending on whether there were any files that had changed since running the other program that needed the VSS. And I could fix the lock by deselecting the use of the VSS in VV. However, I was using v2516 of VV, so I have now installed v2517 and will re-observe.
Could this behaviour be something that was fixed in v2517?
I also have another, completely unrelated, problem with VV. When I boot the computer, sometimes there will be some profile in the engine that is overdue to run, and it will then automatically start to run during the boot process. This is very inconvenient, because it claims resources that are needed for the boot up, and slows down the bootup. If only it would provide a message asking whether the overdue profile should run, acceptance of it could be postponed until the boot up had finished and the resources had become available. You might consider that for future versions, unless it is already an option that I hve failed to spot. Could you please advise how this autorun of overdue profiles can be disabled, and whether there is any way of making it ask before running? |

Hi, re VVEngine what scheduling settings are you using?
re VSS I do not think there were any changes to VSS in build 2517... _________________ --

Thanks.
With reference to "scheduling settings", could you please be more specific? |
