I keep running into this issue “Cannot create a file when that file already exists”.

I am trying to copy from one network location to another network location. I saw a forum post about this issue. Accordingly I changed the profile to copy directly to destination and not use a temporary file. That has not helped. The destination file never exists but we keep encountering this error.

I re-execute the profile, it runs for awhile, then then the error randomly occurs.

We are using ViceVersa PRO 2.5, Build 2516, 64-bit (Server).

Following are the profile properties:

Folders
- Source: "\\nas1\a1_v120\"
- Target: "\\nas2\Export\a1_v120\"
- Include Subfolders: Yes
- Create sources/targets that do not exist
- Network: if network error, retry 1 time(s) after a pause of 5 second(s)
Comparison
- Comparison Type: Size and Timestamp
- Ignore 2 seconds difference
Execution
- Method: Backup (Mirror Source to Target)
- Log File: "D:\Logs\ViceVersaBackup_a1_v120.log"
- No archive for deleted/replaced source files
- No archive for deleted/replaced target files
- Copy files even if timestamp changes after initial comparison
- Copy directly to destination file (do not use a temporary file)
- Verify successful file copy by checking file CRC
- Retain folder created and modified timestamps when copying
- Preserve last accessed timestamp of files being copied
- Include offline files
- Send notification e-mail after execution (Send e-mail on execution success or error)

Any suggestions are welcomed. ~Thanks

Thank you for your response. How do I post the log exactly? It is large and this is my first time using the forum for support.

Sorry for the delay in my response. I have been out of office.

I just re-executed the same profile. This time the sub-directory that it could not create before was created. See the following log excerpt:
2016-03-18 17:12:05 : Copying folder \\aspenla1nas06\a1_v120\photos_batch2\GRA102434\ [OK].
2016-03-18 17:12:06 : Copying file \\aspenla1nas06\a1_v120\photos_batch2\GRA102434\ede128-001-hf.tif <to> \\aspenla1nas09\DarkArchiveExport\EMI\AudioAndGraphics\Graphics_a1_v120\photos_batch2\GRA102434\ede128-001-hf.tif (6.40MB) ... CRC check ... [OK].
2016-03-18 17:12:07 : Copying file \\aspenla1nas06\a1_v120\photos_batch2\GRA102434\ede128-002-hf.tif <to> \\aspenla1nas09\DarkArchiveExport\EMI\AudioAndGraphics\Graphics_a1_v120\photos_batch2\GRA102434\ede128-002-hf.tif (6.40MB) ... CRC check ... [OK].
2016-03-18 17:12:08 : Copying file \\aspenla1nas06\a1_v120\photos_batch2\GRA102434\ede128-003-hf.tif <to> \\aspenla1nas09\DarkArchiveExport\EMI\AudioAndGraphics\Graphics_a1_v120\photos_batch2\GRA102434\ede128-003-hf.tif (6.40MB) ... CRC check ... [OK].
2016-03-18 17:12:08 : Copying file \\aspenla1nas06\a1_v120\photos_batch2\GRA102434\ede128-004-hf.tif <to> \\aspenla1nas09\DarkArchiveExport\EMI\AudioAndGraphics\Graphics_a1_v120\photos_batch2\GRA102434\ede128-004-hf.tif (6.40MB) ... CRC check ... [OK].
2016-03-18 17:12:09 : Copying file \\aspenla1nas06\a1_v120\photos_batch2\GRA102434\ede128-005-hf.tif <to> \\aspenla1nas09\DarkArchiveExport\EMI\AudioAndGraphics\Graphics_a1_v120\photos_batch2\GRA102434\ede128-005-hf.tif (6.40MB) ... CRC check ... [OK].

But then it soon failed because it was unable to create yet another sub-folder. Same error message:

2016-04-01 09:48:16 : Copying folder \\aspenla1nas06\a1_v120\photos_batch2\GRA103406\ [Can not create "\\aspenla1nas09\DarkArchiveExport\EMI\AudioAndGraphics\Graphics_a1_v120\photos_batch2\GRA103406\". Folder "\\aspenla1nas09\DarkArchiveExport\EMI\AudioAndGraphics\Graphics_a1_v120\photos_batch2\" could not be created. Cannot create a file when that file already exists.] [ERROR].

To answer your question, the higher level folder \\aspenla1nas09\DarkArchiveExport\EMI\AudioAndGraphics\Graphics_a1_v120\photos_batch2\ has many sub-folders.

So right now it is just working through that folder and I won't know if it will fail on other higher level folders until it gets to them.

Thank you for your help.
