As a developer I often have circumstances in the source control workflow where it is inappropriate or impossible to check changes into source or even to make a shelfset of my local changes. Yet I still need to be able to 'save off' my changes temporarily. '
Some source control systems make this easier than others. Git, for example, is better at this than TFS.
One solution is to make a folder copy and mark it and then use a diff tool (Beyond compare is easiest) to compare that saved-off copy to my next current version (with any additional changes) and then the changes between that previous saved state and my present state are at least identifiable, if not isolatable.
But it seems to me that VV also can detect this type of differential. The issue is to be able to save off just those changes to a folder or archive. Then that 'changeset' can be applied later as needed. That later application of the saved changeset would look like a normal VV update to the archive.
It would be like an 'external version save'. That is, can I get VV to be able to compare a current folder state and an archive folder state and then save the differential changes to a third folder location?
Twould be awesome!
Thanks,

Hi, we use ViceVersa as diff tool all the times for our own source code.
You can combine it with an external tool such as http://www.compareandmerge.com/ to show detailed difference inside the files.
Regarding your question, in ViceVersa, once you have compared source and target you can select files that have changed and right click and select "copy to..." from the menu to copy to a third location.
One other less known capability of ViceVersa is taking folder snapshots, please see:
http://www.tgrmn.com/web/kb/item103.htm
Once you snap a folder then you can compare that folder with the snapshot to see what files have changed.
