Hi There,
I am testing out VV Pro, and I have a few questions that I cant seem to find answers to in the FAQ or forums.
Maybe this is because I was testing copying a local folder to another local folder. If your source folder is a shared folder, and you have selected "copy Permissions" in the profile settings, will the destination be shared once it has copied?
Can you do a file copy first, and then copy permissions afterwards?
eg you did a large copy without selecting "copy permissions". Source and destination are now the same except for the permissions and I would like to copy just permissions onto each file/folder?
And can I dump a copy of the source folder/file structure to a text file first or anything like that? I am thinking about doing a backup to external HD for long term storage, but I don't want to have to physically retrieve and plug in each HD to check if file x was there before I took a backup.
(maybe you can do it via a script before comparison but i'm not good at scripting which is why I was looking at the tools capabilities to have it automatically generated as part of the job or something like that?)
Thanks
J. |

Hi, thank you for evaluating ViceVersa.

No, because the share information is stored in the registry, not as a file permission.

Permissions are only copied when files are copied.

In the comparison window (where source and target are displayed side-by-side, there's the option to save the lists to a file (from the menu).
