|

Dear support,
I'm planning to purchase this product for a Server 2012R2 server to backup on another server and a NAS, I did activate the Shadow copy on the data drive from the source server but I do have some questions:
1. I did read on your website that the VSS feature works only on local drives, I do have some 259+ chars paths can I still use the \\?\UNC\ ?
2. I don't understand how to use the VSS feature, do I need to replace the source path to \\vss ?
3. If I'm right the VVProfile will call a volume shadow copy process before the backup so the open files will be on the backup ?
4. In the past I saw some problems with long path + archives + more than 1000000 files, I had to split profiles. Is it still a limitation of vvpro 2.5?
5. Is there anything else I should know about extended VSS support ?
Thanks by advance for your help, |

Hello, thank you for evaluating ViceVersa.

Yes, you can use \\?\ for the local drive (e.g. \\?\c:\folder\) and \\?\UNC\ for network paths (e.g. \\?\UNC\computer\folder\)

Use your normal source and target paths and activate the VSS option in profile settings -> advanced settings.

Yes, correct.

On 64-bit it should handle more files, but when the amount of files is large it is better to start using multiple profiles, see:

There is a way to backup volume shadow writers , e.g. hyper-v or MSSQL directly, see:
