I have VV copying from files from my W7 PC hard drive to another drive on the PC without any issue. VV compares my files on my primary hard drive and looks for the files on the backup target hard drive and backs up or removes files accordingly. This activity is completed with a specific profile.

I also have a different profile that backs up the same or similar files or folders to an external hard drive (WD MyBook). However, the last couple of times that I have done this, the VV for what ever reason is re-copying files to the target that already exist. For example, I would expect I only have about 5-10 GB of new data that needs to be copied to the target drive, but the software is copying about 100 GB of data and watching which files that being copied to the target, I know the files did not change.

Anyone else experience something similar and any resolution. I can say that sometimes when I connect my MyBook drive to the PC, the letter drive is not always the same as what was used in the VV profile, so I have to manually change the letter drive within the PC Disk Management to get the profile to run. I really can't expect this to be contributing to the problem or else I would expect the entire drive to be re-backed up not just a few files.

Hello,

what are all the sources and targets in the profile that is re-copying the files to target?

Are the timestamps of the target files correctly applied after a copy, that is, do they match source timestamps?

thanks

I am not clear on your question of "what are all the source and targets..."

Are you asking what type of files? Most of the files that I am copying are pictures and videos.

As far as the files I have checked, the time stamps appear to match.

However, since it is not recopying all the files, I am not clear on why it appears to be copying some of and not all. Since I cannot predict which ones, I cannot check the time stamps of those that they are replacing.

As far as I have noticed, this is only happening on the external mybook drive that I only resynch every 2-3 months. As least that I know, it does not do it when I am making up to an external hard drive which is scheduled for once a week. However, since the frequency of that is much more often, it is possible I don't notice it re-copying things.
