I am having problems getting VV to copy some subdirectories. I use absolute paths which you can see in the screen shot (local source c: and mapped network target jSmile. It appears to me the problem may be related to the period because the error I see says the problem lies within the higher sub.

In other words everything in ..\Bagel\ gets copied from source to target except it's subfolder that starts with a period ..\Bagel\.AppleDouble\

Regarding .AppleDouble subdirectory, VV logs "file not found errors" against a subdirectory that does not even exist, Bagel. I refresh the scan and the folders are not only still there but also correctly named. I execute the VV backup/mirror process and the errors repeat.

Is there a mask or trick I have missed somewhere for handling this?

Thanks in advance.

Mike

PS - I didn't see a convenient upload option for the screen shot and your system doesn't seem to like external links. If my explanation is insufficienmt please provide a means to send or post pictures/videos.

It's been a while. I'd like to assume you received the screen shot and have internally confirmed the problem is real. I'd rather you provided a status update though. Smile

I received the screenshot, thanks. I think the issue is that folders can't start with a . in Windows. I tried creating a folder in Windows Explorer starting with . , but it will not allow that.

I use a digital mapping program - OziExplorer. It is not 'installed' but the unzipped files are placed in a folder (generally 'C:\OziExplorer') and when first run, it makes a number of sub-folders in it's own folder.

With XP Pro SP3 all is well, but then I bought a replacement computer with W7 Pro 64bit. So using VV I just copied the folder structure from old to new.

All appeared well, until I noticed that certain defaults, that I had changed in OziEx with W7, were lost when next run. This did not happen with XP.

The problem was caused, apparently by W7 making a folder, 'C:Users\{name}\.OziExplorer'. Note the dot.

I hate Windows dumping data files into the 'black hole' of User, in a non-structured order. So I always relocate them, thus saving backing-up GBs of junk.

Fortunately OziExplorer has a switch to force Windows into using it's own folder ('C:\OziExplorer' in my case).

It's been recommended to not use Windows program folders since Vista (which I never used).

I did try to rename the dot folder when I first discovered it, by adding an extra character at the front, but Windows just made a new dot folder until I used the program's switch.

I don't have a problem with this and VV, but have posted as an example of dot folders appearing automatically on W7.
