Is it possible to backup a single source file from a folder? On the setup, I can only browse to the folder level and not further to select a specific file or files. Under file filter settings, I have specified the file I want, however under the target it still shows all of the files in the folder, with all but the one desired showing an "X" with the desired file a check.

However, considering the time it takes to do a backup, in addition to the folder noted being backed up with file changes other than the desired one, it obviously is doing a backup whenever any file in the that folder changes in the source, whether the desired file or not.

What I am after, is to select one file for backup, where the backup is processed only when that file changes, and not any of the others in that folder.

Hi, make sure subfolders of source and target are not included (profile settings -> folders).
It's a current limitation of VVEngine. It will start a profile if changes are detected in source and target without considering if the files were filtered and leaves it to ViceVersa to exclude them. This causes superfluous profile runs. Must improve this in next VVEngine release.

I assume under settings you are referring to settings under Visa Versa Pro. There, the only include/exclude I have set is under "files" to include the file that I want. There is nothing set for the "folders" option.

Are you saying that if I run the backup from Visa Versa (not vvengine) that it will only process that single file and none of the other folders? Actually, I did that and along with that single file, it also backed up to the target, the sub-folders under the same folder where that file is located. This single file, along with these sub-folders are all checked, not "x'd".

Adding to my response above, my problem is that the single file I am trying to backup is the bookmark file on my browser. Now, because the vvengine is displayed using the browser, every change made to the vvengine settings, starts the run of this backup. If I can restrict the backup to just the bookmark file (which is not being changed), besides making the single file backup much simpler, it also would not continue to trigger this run as I work on the vvengine settings.

Another issue (if it should be on a new post let me know), after I ran my backups on the VVengine, those show completed and successful completions for "today". Then, after shutting it down and going back in, most of these that displayed the last run as today, reverted back to a "yesterday" run. I now do not know whether my actual backup reverted to yesterday, or just the time display on vvengine?

Just to check, I closed it down again and re-opened... NOW it is back to the last successful run being "today", the last actual run that I did. Obviously a quirk in vvengine, not the actual backup.

Same question here:
Any way to create a profile that saves a single file in a folder that contains many?
The idea is to save a number of reference files scattered in different folders, without backup the full content of the folders.
Obviously I cannot filter out all the other files because they may be many, and files will be added over time.
Thx

Hi, if you have :

source : c:\source\
target : c:\target\

and want to copy only c:\source\file.txt

add a file filter
INCLUDE c:\source\file.txt

Thanks, worked perfectly.

For those who might have the same need and fall on this topic, just also remember unselect the "Include Subfolders" box in the Source/Target Selection dialog.

With this I just got what I needed: save regularly some reference files from the office server into a cloud folder on my PC to be able to consult the last versions on my phone.

Great Very Happy
