|
|
I am a ViceVersa user since 2008 and I'm very satisfied with the tool.
But recently, I've noticed that some files are not being compared properly. The tool shows (properly) they have same name and same timestamp, but they are still treated as different files.
The image below shows one of these cases. I moved manually the two first files from source to target and the I ran ViceVersa using timestamp method:
Then I used the context menu to generate CRC values for both files on both sides and, as you can see, the values are equivalent:
I've tried also to compare by CRC only, but the result is the same.
I found out that the issue is related with filenames with special characters. I've used the context menu to show the properties of both files. The filenames seems to be the same. But here is what happens when I copy and paste both filenames from their property window into a text editor:
Any ideas on how to avoid this?
Source file (on top) is on a NTFS internal drive. Target file (bottom) is on an exFAT external drive.
Thanks for any help.

I tried to make new copies of those files from NTFS to NTFS, from exFAT to exFAT and from NTFS to NTFS. Unfortunately, I could not reproduce the issue in any of the three cases. ViceVersa considered as equivalent all of these new copies.
And now I've found new instances of the issue that proves that it is not related to special chars, as you can see in the image below:
Even ignoring 2s difference, ignoring size and ignoring timestamp, ViceVersa consider the above files as not equivalent and they have the exact same filename!
Thanks for any help. |

Hi, what if you delete the target files and then copy them back from source to target. Do they match in that case? thanks _________________ --

Yes, they do match perfectly every time I use ViceVersa to copy from source to target.
I tried also to copy from source to target without deleting the files on target. And this is what happens:
As you can see, they are now DUPLICATED on target, with the same filename, size and timestamp!
Thanks. |

Somehow those files on target are different than source, even if it looks like the name is matching.... when you copied the file name in the text editor you could see the difference... _________________ --
