|
|
Hi,
I was wondering if anybody here would be kind enough to take me step by step through setting up ViceVersa Pro to do what I need.
I have to explain that I'm not being lazy, but, due to a head injury sustained in Iraq, I suffer from a degree of cognitive dysfunction which means that I am perfectly capable of following a clear set of sequential instructions but I'm unable to pick out what I need to know from the mass of information in the help files and on this forum.
If anybody would be kind enough to help, I'll tell you precisely what I need ViceVersa to do and would be grateful for your help.
If not, then no worries |

Thank you very much.
Firstly, I need my backups to be in one direction, either adding, changing or deleting files and in real time ie. continuous monitoring and I need backup monitoring to start automatically when I start my PC.
First backup would be from one NAS drive to a different NAS drive, the NAS being on the same network as my PC.
Second backup would be from several locations on my PC to a different drive on the same NAS as previously mentioned.
I hope I have given you all the information you need but I understand that you will likely need more information.
I understand that ViceVersa Pro can do all this for me and once setup I will purchase a licence.
Please be aware that I fully realise that you will be doing me a great service and be assured of my continued and genuine thanks. |

Hi,
I guess you're really busy but was wondering whether you might have given any thought to this yet please?
I do hope I don't sound impatient |

Hi, sorry for the delay.
The first step would be to setup a profile that does the backup.
- Start ViceVersa.
- Select source and target folders. Source is the data to backup. Target is where the data must be backup to.
- Click on 'Compare'. ViceVersa will compare source and target.
- Once the comparison side-by side is shown, select 'backup' as execution method and click on Execute. ViceVersa will copy all files from source to target.
- Once done select from the menu file -> save profile as... and save the profile file name.
- Next time you start ViceVersa you'll be able to open this profile and backup.
- Once this works we can setup real-time execution.

It estimates just over 19 hours for the first backup so I'll just leave it running and get back to you when it has finished the initial backup. |

- Start ViceVersa, open the saved profile and compare source and target.
- If there are files to copy click on "execute" one the comparison window opens. Or click on "preview" first to see what ViceVersa will do.
- Do the above a few times to get familiar with ViceVersa.
Do you wish that if a file is deleted from the source is also deleted from the target?

Thank you.
I have completed the steps outlined and I would like deleted files in the source to be deleted in the target please. |

I have some excellent news.
One of my students dropped off some work today and was able to complete the setup of my ViceVersa backup building on the foundation you had already given me.
ViceVersa and VVEngine have proved to do everything I require of them
I'll buy licences immediately.
Finally, please accept my heartfelt thanks for the way in which you've been kind enough to assist me. I really do appreciate the friendly way you've guided me |
