I use VVengine with 13 profiles. Back-ups are made to 3 external drives called S, U, W. The schedules are all set to "Run immediately as soon as source and target are accessible - If error occurs rerun after 8 minutes". I start the computer and after some 3 minutes I switch on the external drives. Backing up begins after a short time.

My problem is that 3 of the 13 profiles stop after about 5 secs with the message "Execution canceled by user". These 3 profiles all back-up to drive W only. All other profiles do this either to one of the other drives or to a combination of more than one drive, INCLUDING drive W.

No rerun of these 3 profiles is initiated after 8 minutes however. I have to perform a manual run to correct the situation.

I use W7 64 bit and ViceVersa PRO v2.5 Build 2513 64-bit with VVengine v2.1 (Build 2104).

What am I doing wrong or: what causes this behavior?

Regards, Sander

Hi Sander,

when a profile is canceled with message "Execution canceled by user", does it go to error status? Then , under "next run" does it say that it will retry in 8 minutes?

thanks!

Yes, it goes to error status after about 4 seconds. Under "next run" it does not say that it will retry in (this case) 5 minutes, it says: "As soon as source and target are accessible again".

When retrying this morning things went even worse: the htm page of VVEngine disappeared as soon as the back-ups started and wouldn't come back. There was some message like "VVEngine is executing tasks, please try again after some time". This persisted a long time. I wanted to shut down the computer but VVEngine couldn't be shut down so I had to press the 'reset' button. I then tried again the whole procedure with the same result as yesterday: two of the three profiles writing their back-ups to the W drive only, failed with the messages as I described in the first paragraph.

Is it perhaps wrong to combine "Run immediately as soon as source and target are accessible" with "If error occurs rerun after 5 minutes" ? It seems a legal setup of a profile.

Should I perhaps leave the external disks running all the time even when the computer is shut down for the night? Or at least have them running before I start the computer in the morning?

I have to correct what I said earlier: I do not get an error status when 2 of the 3 profiles making the back-up tot the W drive exclusively stop with the message "Execution canceled by user". It says "Enabled" and has a red exclamation mark besides. There is also this red exclamation mark next to the description under "Last run", where it says that the run lasted for about 3 or 4 seconds.

Hi, we have been having hard time trying to reproduce this issue. Does it happen consistently on your setup with your drives (e.g. reproducible)? Do you have the ViceVersa profile log showing the error? thanks!

Hello,

Yes, I just tried it again now, and the error occurs again.

I have sent you an e-mail with three screenshots showing the information I can find after the error occurred.

Thank you for the e-mail, I received it : I will keep trying to reproduce the problem on my PC. I am backing up my files in the same way as you are, so far only once the same error message appeared. thanks
