|
|
Hi all, my name is Bryan and I am new here.
A few days ago I posted the following in the "Support" Forum but as yet have had no response. I am just wondering if any Forum members can advise me.
"I am in the process of having a new pc custom built. I had intended to have a Raid 1 set up on two internal hard drives with back up's to further HDD's via hot swop bays in the pc.
However I have been advised that Raid 1 may not be the best way to go and I was pointed in the direction of the ViceVersa series of software.
My questions are,
1) Will ViceVersa be a substitute for a Raid 1 set up by simply using the Mirror facility across two drives?
2) Can ViceVersa be used on internal drives only or does it have to operate across seperate computers? I only want it for "Real Time" file updating between internal drives, i.e. to mirror the master HDD on to a second internal HDD.
3) Can ViceVersa backup/mirror a master drive to 2 additional drives at the same time?
Thanks in advance for any help offered."
I need to find answers before I place the final order for the new PC. If ViceVersa cannot do what I need on a single desktop with multiple drives then I will have to specify a Raid 1 set up on the internal drives.
Thanks for any information. |

Hi, welcome to our forum!

Yes, however Raid 1 hardware is more powerful and completely transparent. We have several Raid 1 on our server and also use ViceVersa to mirror to third drives (internal or external via USB or over LAN).

Can be used for any drive, internal, external or on a separate computer.

Yes, and that is an advantage over RAID1. If you can afford it , I would use ViceVersa and a RAID1 to have 3 backup copies.

Thank you for your reply.
As soon as my new PC is built I will purcase ViceVersa Pro and set it up as you suggest. I will have twoo data HDD's in Raid 1 and use ViceVersa to provide real time back up to addtional hard drives via hot swop caddies in the PC case.
Thanks again for your help. |
