I just started to evaluate ViceVersa Pro v.1.3.1. I'm trying to copy (mirror) user folders in Windows Server 2003 (from C to D). I'm not able to copy those NTFS file and folder permissions (I have those additional sync options checked). I'm logging in with domain admin rights. Could anyone help me with those settings, please |

Hola-
If the root directories in both the source and destination have the same permissions, I've discovered that the FILE permissions are copied, but NOT the FOLDER permissions.

I am having the same problem where the file and folder permissions do not get copied. I am using the trial pro version that can be downloaded from the link on the top right of the home page. |

Same here. I figured it was just me, but one machine has MS Server 2003 and I can't get anything to copy to another drive/folder, even documents and settings. I have admin rights. |

a) Are source and target part of the same domain?
b) Do root source and root target have the same ACL to strart with?
c) What ACL / DACL do not get copied? _________________ --

HELP!
Me too!
I can’t seem to backup/restore ntfs files and keep permissions and security.
With all three options selected, It seems that the backed up files only contain the security info. I assume that is normal because Win2003 keeps the permission info in the OS. The problem is when I restore (mirror) the files back to the data drive they still do not have the security info (all 3 options again). The backup drive is usb2.0 and is ntfs and is attached to the Win2003 server. I'm logged on as administrator.
Am I selecting the options correctly?
Any suggestions would be appreciated. |

a) Yes
b) No, I set the target so domain admins have permissions and that the target is not getting inherited permissions.
c) In my tests none of the ACL/DACL identifiers get copied. The target has the same permissions I set before the backup/replication. None of the subfolders retain these either. They have the propagated permissions of the (target) parent folder.
I am using ViceVersa Pro 2. |

Looks like this question is not being answered. I have the same exact problem. After running a search for NTFS and maintain, I see several of these threads with only a post from a VV rep asking a couple of questions. When responded to, no one replies.
I am quickly rethinking our decision to implement this product at our other sites. |

looks like this is the big point - we're running into the same problems and we solved them: Source: NT4 Server, Target: W2003R2 Server, both in the same NT Domain
- created an empty target folder with exactly the same NTFS-permissions as the source on it
- we checked the "inherit permissions from parent objects"-flag on the source and modified it on the target to fit the source set
- all "copy NTFS-permission" flags (also in the subdirectory) were set
- started a backup job into this empty directory and all the directories and files got their original ACL-set from the source - gotcha! |
