Hi

Been using VV Pro very successfully for many years now.

Today I go to run all my weekly backups (mainly backing up Macs on the network to NAS drives) and I get the error message above for every single backup job. It's followed by another error saying:

"Error scanning source folder"

I've tried relocating the source and destination folders, and all is fine. But as soon as VV Pro starts to scan, these errors appear.

Would be hugely grateful for any help. Am wondering if it might have something to do with OS upgrades on the Mac systems in question...?

Hi, is the source folder on the MAC and target on the NAS? Which version of Windows are you running and which version / build of ViceVersa? thanks

Hi, and many thanks for your response.

Yes, the source folder is on the Mac (in fact one of two Macs). Both Macs are running OS X Mavericks. The destination folders are on NAS. The system running Vice Versa Pro is a Windows 7 PC. The version of Vice Versa Pro is the latest as of yesterday - 2.5 build 2512, 64bit.

As mentioned, these backups have worked flawlessly for many years, and Vice Versa Pro has been the backbone of our backup strategy. Where other systems have failed or been too cumbersome, VV Pro has always just delivered. This being the case, I'm wondering if the issue might be down to the recent upgrade to Mavericks on the Mac systems. Network backups involving my Windows systems are still running fine.

Many thanks again for your help.

Thank you, the next step is to establish if the error only happens for the folder \\mac-pro-2010\Audio\2012 Audio\Happy Hiphop 2\

Could you exclude this folder temporarily from the profile and see of the comparison finishes if this folder is excluded?

thanks

Hi

Excluding that folder does not resolve the issue.

This is also borne out by the fact that none of my other backup jobs with source folders on Mac systems run either - every one of them generates a similar error as soon as it starts to scan. This on different systems, different drives, different data types etc. - all behave the same.

FWIW, the results of running the same backup job but with the folder you listed excluded are pasted below.

In case it helps, a different log file extract from a different backup job, which is trying to access a different source folder on a totally different system (still Mac) on the same network:

Yes, that works fine. I get a full list of the contents of that folder. Also, in VV Pro I can see the folders and folder contents on the source Macs no problem when selecting files in the browser.

I can confirm that the move to Mavericks appears to be the culprit. I am having the same issue you describe.

Hi, please try the following:

1) set the option Network Friendly Folder Scanning, it's in profile settings -> execution.

2) If the above still does not work, try to run ViceVersa "as administrator", right click on the ViceVersa icon and select "run as administrator". If you are already running as administrator, try the opposite, i.e. not running as administrator.

thanks

Neither of those options worked for me.

I'm afraid the situation's the same here. Tried both changes but am seeing the same issues still.

Hi, could you write to support@tgrmn.com , I'll see if we can send you a special version of ViceVersa to debug this issue and collect more info on why it's failing. thanks!
