|
|
We have VV Pro 2 [build 2009, as I recall] installed on this server. The server has only two purposes: 1: the critical company software [specifically designed] and 2: Quickbooks.
We have VSS [replicate target] that copy those two folders to another computer. It appears to work perfectly, thank you very much!
The sever is only about 5gb since we don't add much to it.
The question came up: can we install an external USB hard drive to this server, and copy the entire drive to this external device? Like, once a week in scheduler?
I would use VSS and replicate target, and anything else you suggest.
The server has two 20gb drives, RAID, I suspect, NTFS, if that matters. |

Yes, you can copy all files to the USB drive. We also do that for our servers. The USB disk will not be bootable, but in case of failure all data files will be there. You will still need to reinstall the server. Just copy the C:\ drive to the USB drive. _________________ --

Wonderful news, thank you!
One more, same subject. Our biggest fear [problem] has been theft, and this server is "eye candy" to a thief. Can I install the external drive on "another" networked computer?
So, server has VV Pro 2 with VSC, and it copies to a USB external on a computer in another secure room? We currently use VV Pro 2 to copy certain folders from server to external [on other computer] but this copy would include the server software.
Yes, I understand it would not be bootable. We just don't want to lose anything.
thanks again |

Yes, if the windows 2003 server can "see" the USB drive attached to the other computer (using the smb protocol) it will work fine. _________________ --
