|
|
I am trying to copy a large file (220 meg)... every time the profile runs, it copies for a couple of hours then apparently hangs near the end..
at present, vvengine shows time elapsing but no further file progress. I also have trouble connecting to vvengine, getting the busy with an operation message. The log file is unavailable for some reason...
The only resolution seems to be to stop vvengine or the profile which of course kills any part od the transfer already completed.
Once again, elapsed indicator rolls on but estimated time to completion and file progress remains unchanged... it is set to do crc check but the file sizes are not the same (source and target) so I don't think the transfer is complete... filename on target still shows .tmp
How I can I troubleshoot what's going on? |

on further check of log files... after killing profile manually, log reappears and shows transfer complete but checking CRC... how long can checking the crc of a large file take? I waited a good 45 minutes for the status to change before stopping the profile...
These are disk image files and crc check is very important. |

I dropped the crc check and the profile completed normally... so... I don't know if the crc check hangs on the large file or if it is just so slow that it takes almost as much time to crc check as it does to transfer... in any case there is no progress indicator during crc check and it often renders the engine unreachable for long periods with the 'busy with operation' message. |

Hi, CRC check can take as long as the initial transfer (because the file is re-read to verify that is was properly written), however it should not impact the VVEngine. When do you get the busy message, is that while trying to stop it? thanks _________________ --

well this busy thing comes up alot, at random times near as I can tell... this may have to do with how many viceversa options are open concurrently? Also too many profiles with realtime monitoring seems to have an overall performance impact? More on this in a separate post. Thanks again for your support. |

Thanks, it's most likely due to the amount of profiles running together, in that case, if VVEngine is busy, it will prioritize the profile over the user interface and give the 'busy' message. _________________ --

interesting... dropbox was causing some of the problems... being able to limit the number of vv instances would be nice |

I have a similar problem copying SQL Server 2008 dumps from a production server to a SQL server setup as a spare. A large SQL Server dump (36 gb) copies and then hangs on the CRC check. Unfortunately, this disrupts the production SQL Server I am copying from (processes go into suspended mode and SQL Server stops responding). Stopping the VV Engine profile freed up the production server. Smaller dumps copied and CRC'd successfully.
I know if I cancel the CRC check in the VV profile I run the risk of not having a file copied correctly but I also can't risk disrupting my production servers. How dangerous is it for me to skip the CRC check? Is it absolutely essential? |

I would definitely switch off CRC checking. It is only needed for DVD / CD media or over unstable connections over the Internet. _________________ --
