|
|
I have seen references to custom archiving, including "keep one from today, one from this week" etc but I can't find them in our version of the software, nor can I locate in the dox. Please assist - obviously if we run every hour and edit that file all day, we'll wipe out our old versions.
Where are these "custom archiving" settings? |

In the archive section of the profile settings you can enable smart archiving, which will archive:
1 copy per 5min this hour.
1 copy per hour this day.
1 copy per day this month.
1 copy per month forever.
BTW ViceVersa PRO only _________________ --

Thank you. Is this documented anywhere? The closest I could find was from your FAQ:
Quote: | Hence, multiple versions of files can be kept for a specified period of time. Extensive options in ViceVersa lets you to control how many versions of each file to keep, where and for how long: you can specify to keep old versions for X days, or up to X copies, or only for certain file names or extensions. |
Is there something more specific detailing this feature? I don't see anything in the console to select it other than to have blind faith in the "smart archiving" checkbox! |

It's in the VV help file.
Smart Archive: ViceVersa keeps one file version every five minutes for the last hour, one file version every hour during the last day, one file version every day for the last month plus one file version per month. _________________ --

You are correct, thank you. However it's difficult to understand how this setting works in conjunction with the keep max copies - If I specify five copies of a file as the max, does this mean that five of my "five minute files" are kept and my hourly, daily, weekly, monthly files are deleted? |

The combination of the two options will result in the Smart Archiving logic "kicking in" first and then the max amount of copies filter will remove all older versions in excess of the number set. _________________ --
