These old files go back to between 1999 and 2009 and have been held in old archive folders on external WD My Passport 1TG USB HDDs. They were transferred from old CF cards and optical disks about 2-3 years ago.
I am now adding new WD 2TG USB3 HDDs into my backup system. At the same time, I've moved from an XP Pro desktop to a W7 64 Pro laptop with a newer version of VV. To do this, I'm reorganising my folder structure.
So I've got two major problems. Specific to me is that I've used '[' and ']', together as '[]', as a file/folder prefix to indicate that the file/folder is to be excluded by VV. So my sync comparisons suddenly become very large as files/folders keep appearing with [].
So I'm spending a lot of time in Windows Explorer replacing [] with €- for my exclusions and here is my second major (i.e. it takes a long time) problem - WE.
So I started to use 'Classic Shell' to overcome the problems introduced by Microsoft in the W7 version of WE. But this was still to slow, so I installed 'Explorer++ and started to drag-&-Drop files/folders in reorganising my folder structure.
A few days later, while running VV, I noticed that some of my old files that should have been the same on two different drives, had yesterday's or the day before's date.
All the files are plain text files (that open in Notepad) with extensions of .eml and .nws.
The Date/Time stamps are being changed to one day before the time of the actual transfer. Is this connected with WE on W7 or E++. I'm not looking for an answer, only reporting an odd happening, that could happen with other users.
However when I decided to allow VV to sync with these files, they would not copy across. So within VV, I deleted by hand every new version of the files. Then reset the 'Tracking Database' and the old files were copied by VV as I expected.
During all this effort, I had VV produce two errors. I'll post these to VV support.
This posting is not looking for an answer, but only to assist others understand what could be happening. |
