Hi there and thank you for your help.
Windows 7 64-bit
Western Digital My Book Live duo with 2 x 3TB drives in Raid 1
I'm looking for software that has a little bit more to offer than the backup software from WD. I have searched through the web and ViseVersa comes highly recommended.
Profiles
I want VV to backup only selected folders under my username and not all files under c:\users\myname\
I don't need to copy mydropbox, contacts and so on. Is there a way to choose only specific folders? From what I have learned through trial & error is that I may have to create a profile for each and every sub-folder I want backed up should I don't want to backup all sub-folders under c:\users\myname\
Is this right?
Please advise on correct backup-method. I have previously worked with mirror but have "discovered"replication. I like the idea of VV not deleting from target if source is deleted but to store deleted files in an archive. Do I need to choose "Replication - Update" as backup method. I also want the profiles to be "live" so that files are changed/copied/updated in real time.
I will really appreciate your help & device here.
Regards,
Deon |

Hi, probably the easiest is to select c:\users\myname\ and then exclude certain subfolders (profile settings -> subfolder filters).
You could still select "backup" and enable the archiving feature (profile settings -> archiving). Or you can use archiving with the replication (Update method: http://www.tgrmn.com/web/kb/item27.htm ) This is what I do for my laptop backup.
Regarding having a profile to run real-time as changes are detected, see VVEngine: http://www.tgrmn.com/web/kb/item108.htm
There's many options available. I set VVEngine to track changes and having them replicated every 30 mins if laptop is not running on battery power. _________________ --
