|
|
Hi
Im running vv pro 2.5 build 2511 x64.
I have seen the video and read the pdf but I still dont get it.
I need to do a mirror backup of my vhdx file.
I have set method to "Backup (Mirror Source to Target)".
But every time I run vv it wants to copy the complete vhdx file.
Which settings have I missed you think?

Hi
My VM is not running when I do the vv job.
Can you please tell me how to make a mirror job in vv.
Or point out that in the documentation.
Thanks |

Hi
You mean that if my vhdx file changes, vv will copy the complete file every time?
So, the mirror option I chose before running the vv job, means what?
Thanks |

Hi and thanks
Ok, but how if you would take some time to explain so that I understand.
There are different options under method, such as:
Sync
Backup (Mirror)
Replication
etc
What do they all mean if the full file is copied every time the vhdx files has changed? |

We are not talking about the same thing here.
If I add one file to my desktop (in my VM) your application sees the change and mirrors the complete vhdx file.
But........its only supposed to copy the newly added file.
Otherwise this is just another backup application.
How can you call this hyper-v support? |

Hi , there's no application that can do that from the host, to have that happening you'll need to run ViceVersa inside the VM. _________________ --

Hi and thanks
You mean that if I run a backup application from inside a VM I can mirror, but outside (from the host) it will make copy of a full vhdx every time?
Ok, but what about this one:
"1. It is a space-saving technology developed by Altaro Software that enables Altaro Hyper-V Backup to keep only the changes between each version of a changed VHD (or VHDX) file and another, rather than storing the version of a file as a whole file every time it is changed. "
Source: [Not allowed to link to other websites(!) Google Altaro user guide and look for reversedelta]
Sir, could you please explain what it means to run VV from the host using the Mirror option? |

Hi, that means that Altaro can copy files in differential mode, that is only the parts of a file that have physically changed. When a VM runs, a lot of it changes, even if inside the VM only one file changes (think registry, Windows settings, etc). _________________ --

Hi again
So if I make a change in the registry and then run altaro backup and then recreate a new VM with the backup, the registry setting is not there?
Are you sure?
Im once again asking you about the mirror option.
The only thing it does is that is sees that the vhdx has changed and then copies the full file, correct? |

The process That Alrtaro uses is celled de-duplication, I am not sure if ViceVersa utilizes this technology, The way it works after the 1st complete transfer it updates the raw data to the destination mirror for any changes, you set up time that data should be copies from minutes to hours.
