Hi,

I note the following error when using VSS.

"The system cannot find the file specified.] [ERROR]"

In an example, the following file exists in the source - I have changed folder names to obscure. I retained the same length, spaces, special characters (such as ~) in the path.

J:\abc\abcdefghi\abcdefgh ijklmnopq\Tenders\1 - Current Tenders\ab-c-0000 - abc defghi jklmno\1 - Tender Documents\Tender Documents from abcdefghij\FINALP~11\abcde fghh\Drawings Final\4.0 abcdefghi\S.abc-0104-H005.pdf

The following error is thrown:
"\\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy577\ABC\ABCShared\abcdefgh ijklmnopq\Tenders\1 - Current Tenders\ab-c-0000 - abc defghi jklmno\1 - Tender Documents\Tender Documents from abcdefghij\FINALP~11\abcde fghh\Drawings Final\4.0 abcdefghi\S.abc-0104-H00". The system cannot find the file specified.] [ERROR].

Note that the '5.pdf' at the end of the file name has been removed.

I am using the \\?\UNC option for LFN support to the target path.

Thanks
Matthew

I am trying to perform a Backup and am using VSS for the Source.

I am receiving a "Windows Copy Error" with a long path and file name that has the last few characters of the file name missing. It says "The system cannot find the file specified" and assume this is because is has truncated the last few characters of the file name. I do see \\?\ at the beginning of the path so it should not be a character limit issue.

I saw a similar post on "Tue Jun 04, 2013 1:30 am Post subject: Using VSS on source - some files are missing" but did not see a resolution.

Please advise how to resolve this issue as it is causing many files to be skipped on the Backup copy.

thanks, is this path correct:

\\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy13621\Users\Special Requests\DMS\Blackbaud LA Deployment\Documentation\Los Angeles\Managed Constituents\Marketing and Communications\Marketing> & Communications_old versions\Marketing Communications LA version Updated 10 01 2013.docx

?

"Marketing> & Communications_old versions" contains a '>' which is an invalid character in Windows.

thanks

Turning off the "Use Windows native file copy" resolved the "windows copy error."

Thanks for your assistance.
