We use VVPro to backup data from our main file servers to a local backup server to then make our tape archives. My problem is that I am using VVScheduler in VVPro for the backup process but it may take a couple hours for the scheduler to read a source folder tree on a remote server. So I just bought and downloaded VVEngine to work with VVPro because I like the way VVEngine does real-time scanning of the source folders. Hopefully this cuts down backup time. My question is do I use the engine along with the scheduler or to replace the scheduler (ie- disable all my tasks)? I am unclear that when I am using the engine to schedule a profile, am I scheduling the engine to run it's scan, or to fire off the backup profile, or to simply allow the scheduler to run the profile as scheduled only when changed files are detected? Thanks. |

Hi, once you add and schedule your profiles to run in VVEngine, you no longer need them in VVScheduler too. VVEngine is a VVScheduler replacement and it will run all the profiles independently. thanks _________________ --

OK, so I am transferring my profiles over to my brand new VVEngine server edition and suddenly it chokes at five profiles. What gives with that? I need to run seven or eight distinct processes in order to get the data transferred overnight using a slow WAN connection.
What is the advantage of using VVEngine over the VCVSheduler? Does the engine do realtime scanning of the source folders thereby eliminating the need to run a prolonged scan at the start of the job? If that is the case then I hope I can run my faster jobs using the scheduler and the slower jobs using the engine. Can they coexist? |

Thanks again. I do have both running side by side but I noticed today that all the profiles running in VVScheduler are not running with an error. I view the log and nothing recent is posted in them that indicates what the error is. Only that the last successful run was XX days ago -- anywhere from a week to two weeks ago -- about the time that VVEngine was installed. I tried to manually override and run the routines but nothing happens. I clicked on the "Show Comparison" button and I ge an error that says "The Vice Versa application was not found. Please install Vice Versa". The application is installed and runs when I click on the icon. I am a little distressed at this point becuse some of these profiles that I couldn't run from VVEngine could take a couple days to get ccught up. |

I just remembered that the other update I did was to go from 2.5 build 2503 64-bit to version 2.5, build 2511 64-bit. Thanks! |
