I am trying to sync my win 8 laptop with a win XP desktop, and in Vice Versa Pro, there is no issue at all. However VVEngine seems to be unable to connect. There is 2 folders which I am trying to sync, and for the first folder I was able to get it to work by first running the sync directly in Vice Versa, and then the error in VVEngine disappeared automatically.
With the 2nd folder, things are more tough, and I don't understand what is happening. I run the sync in VV, no problem. I enable the profile in VVEngine and get the message "not accessible". I go back in Vice Versa, and ... VV cannot connect anymore either, and as a matter of fact only shows my C drive and Libraries. None of the connected drives are shown anymore.
So please, what is going on here, and what can I do to establish a connection?

Thanks

Hi,

That's indeed the case. I've tried with the UNC path name, but still the same result. In mapping the drives, I found out that for whatever reason, I win 8 was unable to find the PC name. So I replace it with the local IP, and this resolved all issues.
Now, in the profile, I first tried with the IP \\192.168.1.x\Share, but the location could not be detected. I replaced the IP wit the PC name, and this did the job, but only in Vice Versa. VVEngine is still giving me the not accessible message, after enabling the profile.
What is strange is that one sync using the same mapped drive is working without problems, and this second one keeps failing.

Maybe another small remark. I am not running the sync as a scheduled task. I simply Watch source and target and execute as soon as there are changes.
And, I am not running it as a service.

Hi, do you use a user + password when creating the drive mapping?

Hi,

Still the same issue, and I don't get figured out what the deal is. The folders to be synced are:
Source Win8: C:\Users\George\Docs
Target Win XP: \\S-Reindeer\C$\Documents and Settings\George\My Documents\Docs

What is weird is that Vice Versa doesn't care about the exact path. It works no matter what I put. With or without the $ sign after C, or I can use the mapped drive.
Any solutions please?

I have both PCs configured as to not require a password, but, yes, knowing windows, ... The XP has no password, but let me try to put the user name and a blank passwd.

Added as path \\s-reindeer, with user George, no password. Tested the connection and OK. Enabled the profile in VVEngine, and immediately I get the message "not accessible".
When I mapped the drive, I think hat I indeed added the username, but is not 100% sure.
But, if username/passwd is the issue, why is there no problem at all with the other sync, on the same path, and using the mapped drive?

Darned !!! I don't know what happened, but after leaving it alone for an hour, I check, and ... I got a green check mark. Great !!!
The question now is, what did it? Did after several hours finally the path name take effect, or is it the username which I added to the profile? Would be nice to know.

It could be the user name that you added to the profile, but the real test would be to switch the computers off and on again and see if it is still OK after reboot.
