I'm using a trial version of ViceVersa Pro 2.5. The configuration is as follows:
Server A: Windows 2008 Storage Server where VV is installed and where profiles reside.
Server S: Windows 2003 Standard Server containing source files.
Server T: Windows 2003 Standard Server containing target files.
All three servers are members of the same domain. Server T is at a remote location and is accessible through a 10Mbit VPN connection.
Server A uses UNC path to name source and target servers.
Server S has approximately 2.9 million PDF files ranging in size from 10Kb to 10Mb. The PDF file names are between 40 and 100 characters long (computer generated) and can contain dashes, underscores, and spaces. All files are in a single folder off the root of the data drive (\PDFfiles\).
Server T has approximately 500,000 files of these files.
I'm trying to replicate Server S to Server T. VV reads the files on the Server S folder and displays the number in the "Comparing source and targets" window properly. This takes approximately 25 minutes to complete.
After 2-5 minutes the following error message displays:
\\SERVER-T\PDFfiles\*.*: The specified network name is no longer available."
Per your suggestion I have enabled the "Network Friendly Folder Scanning" option but the same error is repeated during each attempt.
Do you have any recommendations as to how VV should be configured? Should I move the VV application from Server A to Server S? (Server A is the corporate backup server and nothing is running on it during the day.)
The VV log1.log contains the following information:

Yes, both source and target are flat folders. |

The source of the problem has been found. Prior to testing ViceVersa Symantec's "Continuous Protection Server" was used to replicate the source and target servers. Even though all CPS jobs were placed on hold, the destination server still had the Symantec services running on it. Once the CPS services were disabled the ViceVersa replication is working fine. |

The CPS host server (in this case the same server running the VVP test)must send a "heartbeat" signal every so often and that was somehow forcing VVP to error ("...network name no longer available").
The lesson here is to always disable Symantec Enterprise services (or uninstall the app) before testing software. Sounds basic but sometimes we overlook the obvious. |
